Last Friday we emailed our users to tell them about an upcoming pricing change in our service. The change will be effective on August 31, 2015. On this post I explain why we had to change the price of the service and what users need to do next.
Our team has been operating Blimp for more than 4 years now. During that time we’ve grown our offering quite a lot with minimal changes to the price of the product. We want to be able to keep working hard on the product and provide even more functionality in the near future.
Unfortunately our pricing model has not been keeping up with the demand and scaling needs of the service. In fact it’s actually slowing down the progress of the application. We have many features in the queue waiting to be implemented.
A few weeks ago we made the difficult decision of changing the pricing model of the service to be able to keep providing a useful and stable product. This pricing change will affect old and new users of Blimp. Some will pay less and some will pay more.
The new plan is $5 per user per month and you get a 15% discount if you pay yearly.
In the new model there are no free accounts. New users will enjoy a 7-day trial but after that they must upgrade to continue using the application.
Users that no longer want to use the application or don’t want to subscribe to the one of the new plans, can and always will be able to export their data and delete their account completely if they desire.

You have until August 31, 2015 to upgrade to one of the new plans.
